Jo Aleh Delays Family Holiday To Attend Welcome-Home... | Stuff.co ...

Kiwi Olympic gold medallist Jo Aleh has postponed a family holiday to attend a welcome-home event in Christchurch.

The sailor had planned to meet family in Israel after London, but returned for today's team celebration at the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre at noon because of the "commitment and positivity" shown by Cantabrians after the earthquakes.

"Christchurch has been through so much, and I am truly amazed by how tough everyone has been," Aleh said.

All five members of the bronze medal-winning equestrian eventing team returned from Britain to attend the celebration, which was moved from Hagley Park because of wet weather.

More than 80 Olympic athletes, including 23 of the 27 medallists, will take part.

Newly crowned Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams is competing in Europe, while cyclists Jesse Sergent and Sam Bewley, who won bronze in the team pursuit, have international team commitments.

Many Christchurch schools have left it up to parents to decide whether children can attend the event.

Isleworth School principal Jeanette Shearer said the school would allow pupils to go if they asked, but none had.

Belfast School principal Peter Simpson said the venue change meant its pupils would not be attending.

"We were while it was at Hagley Park to coincide with Friday sport, but with the change in venue we decided it wasn't going to be feasible," he said.

There will be standing room for about 700 members of the public in the stadium. The remainder will be able to watch the ceremony on a large screen in the nearby park.

Fans will be able to take on athletes in hockey, volleyball, athletics, football and inflatable boxing.

Single-sculler Emma Twigg will compete on the rowing machine, cyclist Alison Shanks on the bike and boxer Cameron Todd will don the gloves in the ring.

Medallists Lisa Carrington, Mark Todd and Mahe Drysdale will travel to nearby Centennial Park to sign autographs, have photographs taken and answer questions. Other Olympians will visit fans at schools, hospitals, care facilities and businesses.

Equestrian team members Andrew Nicholson and Jock Paget will also take three short lessons with national squad members Emily Cammock and Annabel Wigley, and leading local rider Katie Rankin, at the National Equestrian Centre at McLeans Island from 9am. The duo will return to McLeans Island with Todd, Jonelle Richards and Caroline Powell at 2.30pm to take part in a panel discussion, question time and open afternoon tea.

Medal-winning BMX rider Sarah Walker will be at Merrin School.

Laptops, Computers, Technology, Tablets - Windows 8 Brings Forth ...

The big launch of Microsoft's latest operating software, Windows 8, is slated for later this year and it's already got some major manufacturers eagerly on their toes. Windows 8 is said to work better with touch capable devices and will enhance efficiency like never before. Manufacturers are already coming up with ways to innovate ultrabooks, netbooks and tablets. Even Dell laptops are being renovated into hybrid devices. And they're not stopping at laptops. Big brands like Dell are preparing a range of new hybrids including tablets and ultrabooks.

According to DigiTimes reports, the ultrabooks available to consumers today are not adequate enough for touch technology because users might accidentally push the top panel of the laptop forward when trying to tap the touch screen. What's worse is the entire laptop could fall backward if the touch screen is pushed too hard.

To solve this problem, manufacturers are ditching the traditional clamshell design and gravitating toward something innovative and futuristic. Now on the table are designs featuring rotating or sliding screens, which would allow the laptop to function as a tablet as well. An example of this is a laptop that folds around completely into a tablet, and the keyboard on the reverse side would be automatically disabled when shifted.

Another feature option for future laptops are track pads. Historically, track pads have proven to be more accurate and user-friendly on laptops in comparison to touch screens. A track pad would be more comfortable to use because users can select items using right clicks. Copying and pasting text would also be made easier with a track pad.

In the past, manufacturers have innovated products with similar ideas. For example, they developed several high-tech laptops with rotating screens in various directions. And these even include stylus pens to be used to draw on the screen. The text written or drawn on the screen could then be immediately transferred into typed text. This type of technology did not incorporate a full touch screen, but was headed in that direction. Some of the laptops currently being developed are even going to include a docking station and Bluetooth keyboard. This trend toward touch screen devices has obviously taken off with smartphones and will likely be just as popular with computing devices. Analysts call the touch trend "the Apple effect."

And with all things touch screen, the price tag will reflect the advanced technology. Touch screen products will certainly cost significantly more than the traditional track pad and keyboard products. But if you're a Windows enthusiast, you'll want to get your hands on Windows 8. And in order to enjoy the full benefits of Windows 8 technology, you'll need a touch screen hybrid device.

Control Menopausal Weight Gain : Diet women. | How Can You ...

Article by c. Dihel

Get Control of Menopausal Weight Gain:

Get control of menopausal weight gain. Women need to pay more attention to what their bodies are telling them, especially if they fall in the menopause age range.

Women who smoke experience menopause about 2 years earlier than nonsmokers. Smoking doubles a woman?s odds of developing coronary heart disease and is a major risk factor for osteoporosis. Bone loss is a more likely possibility during menopausal years.

Women undergoing menopause seem to suffer weight gain. Nearly every woman struggles through it during peri-menopause and menopause. If you?re a woman lucky enough to not be affected by menopausal weight gain, really appreciate that. It?s a rare occurrence.

Women who transition to menopause at a younger age are at increased risk of a first episode of depression. Women who take estrogen HRT should be aware that they need frequent mammogram screenings. Women hanker after hourglass figures and men need to be Greek Gods. It is no wonder that every second person on the street is on a weight loss diet.

Stop dieting because DIET?S DON?T WORK!Click Hereto see what I mean.

Women going through menopause and peri-menopause may experience missing or more frequent periods, heavy periods, longer periods or a combination. It?s largely an individual thing, though what your mother experienced can give you some indication of what?s in store for you.

Women should be sure they have sufficient calcium and vitamin D in their diet by consuming low-fat dairy products or calcium-enriched orange juice. The standard recommended dose for older people is between 1000 and 1500 mg per day, depending on risk factors.

Women would notice that their menopause weight gain is more concentrated around the belly or abdomen instead of around the hips and thighs. People term this as the ?apple? shape due to the rounder shape of the belly.

How to deal with someone unfriending you

11 hrs.

Facebook friendship is fleeting and borderline meaningless. But that doesn't mean rejection and betrayal don't sting. Getting dumped is horrible, painful and guaranteed to happen. Here's how to handle a devastating digital breakup.

Factors to consider
It's possible you're really annoying on Facebook???lots of stupid shared "joke pictures," confrontational political statements, mundane check-ins???in which case, who can blame anyone for unfriending you? You're a terrible friend. Friends should be interesting. Why weren't you more interesting? You brought this upon yourself, and now everyone is running away from you. Start being better and you'll start making friends. That's your best shot.

But let's say you're just a regular guy being cool on Facebook???posting the occasional fun photo, insightful link, amusing status update, thoughtful birthday wishes. You manage your Timeline like a pro! You're a good person, and a good Facebook Friend.

And someone still unfriends you. You have reason to be offended. When friendship means so, so precious little, taking the time to click enough to remove someone from your list of fake friends is hugely insulting. You're beneath fake friendship. Someone doesn't even want to see your name written down on an LCD screen. You're repulsive to them. Unfriending on Facebook is like being kicked out of fat camp for being too fat. And ugly. Ugly and fat.

But, don't forget:

Unfriending is healthy
It's a normal, perfectly rational thing people do on Facebook all the time. Most of your hundreds of Facebook friends aren't actually your friends, because it's emotionally impossible for a single person to have hundreds of friends simultaneously. Being unfriended might be someone simply waking up and recognizing the absurdity Facebook thrusts us into. They're just attempting to rectify it, using features built into said social network.

And yet...

We're all petty enough to care.

Let it go, but be weird about it
If it's someone you actually know???a co-worker, friend of a friend, some peripheral talking blob???you probably shouldn't make a fuss. Particularly, if they're connected to someone who is actually important in your life, it's best to just let the affront slide.

But some day, whenever the two of you meet in person again, you'll briefly lock eyes. I know what you did, and you know what you did. It's a moment of mutual panic, guilt and animus. That'll quickly subside, and you'll go about your lives. Who knows, maybe you'll both end up forgetting the whole thing. You might even friend one another again. And so the cycle continues.

Or, if you feel like a fight...

Call them out
This part is fun. If you're not really worried what these people think about you, publicly expose what they truly are???cruel. Cruel jerks. They'll get their comeuppance. These unfrienders think you probably won't even notice, and if you ever do, you'll be too apathetic or nervous to say anything about it.

But bringing up the vile act???either online or in person???will shock them to their core. They'll be taken aback that you're enough of a weirdo to bring up a Facebook unfriending. Watch as they stammer excuses, stutter, and try to explain. They'll offer to refriend you. "It was a mistake! Oh, how did that happen?" They'll feel bad and weird and guilty. They'll feel something, which is better than Facebook's typical emotional feedback void. Sure, it's trolling, but it'll make you feel better without any kind of real moral transgression. The Internet should always be making you feel better.

This happened to me last year, when, after posting about a Facebook bug that actually revealed who'd defriended you, one girl I sort of used to know, who'd recently deleted me, reached out. Panic-stricken. Ashamed. But I forgave???as should you. Now we're sort of faux-friends again on The Book, and all is well. If anything, we're closer!

Just remember:
There's nothing wrong with a little revenge online. The consequences are so low, the results so ephemeral. What would've been a hissy fit IRL is as simple as sending an email. When all that's required is a slide and tap of the finger, petty loses the fight against pettier. You win. And then you can add the reconciliation to your Timeline as a Major Life Event.

Jobs That Dont Medicine Test | New Media Photographer Community

07:48:31 am on August 8, 2012 | # |

One of the most important things that jobs shortage today is insurance plan. Whether it?s health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, or even life insurance, there are scores of jobs out there that do not offer one or more of these kinds of insurance. However, again, we still need work.

Some of us hold the luxury of departing one job for an additional if we find that the initial job doesn?t offer you what we need, especially if it doesn?t offer insurance policy. We can just pack up our desks and move on to the next job opportunity. However, altering jobs isn?t a choice for everyone, especially in the current job market. Many of us have families to feed and bills to pay, and because of these factors we very often have to take what we could possibly get, job-wise. And if the work opportunities we have to take don?t offer the insurance we?d like, what can we do?

Seek out other insurance choices, of course.
Jobs that dont drug test
The most obvious solution for lack of insurance is to purchase an individual insurance coverage. Albeit, individual plans cost more than the class insurance policy you could get via an employer, and are normally much more than many of us are willing to pay, however having an individual insurance coverage is better than having no insurance at all. If you?re involved with a serious accident or even contract a serious condition, the hospital costs will doubtless be much higher than your premiums you covered your individual health insurance policy.

If you look at it this way, the means warrant the end. Isn?t your quality of life, and your family?s well being, worth the extra cost?

The Big Latch On: Breastfeeding Moms Worldwide Simultaneously Nurse To Break World Record

At 10:30 a.m. at 590 locations spread across 23 countries, mothers around the world breastfed their children in an attempt to break a simultaneous breastfeeding record while also raising awareness about the importance of the practice.

Heralded as the Big Latch On, the event began Friday morning and will continue into Saturday as each time zone joins in.

All locations have been registered through the Latch On website, and will have officials looking on to record the number of mothers. Last year, 5,687 mothers participated, but this year, organizers will need more than 9,826 to break the record set in 2010.

The Big Latch On was founded by the New Zealand non-profit Women's Health Action in 2005 as part of World Breastfeeding Week, which is held each year during the first week of August.

Several cities across the U.S. are participating this year, including Pittsburgh, Portland, Ore. and Richmond, Va.

According to the World Health Organization, breasteeding is one of the most effective ways to keep babies healthy, and if properly implemented, it could save about "a million lives." However, worldwide "less than 40 percent of infants under six months of age are exclusively breastfed."

A 2010 article in the journal Pediatrics estimated that less-than-optimal breastfeeding rates among American mothers added $13 billion to medical costs in the U.S.

Part of the goal of the Big Latch On event is to foster a sense of community and solidarity among fellow breastfeeding mothers, while also also making breastfeeding a normal part of the "day-to-day life" at a community level.

But in its May report on global motherhood, Save the Children ranked the U.S. last out of 36 industrialized countries in its support of breastfeeding. According the Christian Science Monitor, a lack of paid maternity leave and the prevalence of formula marketing contributed to the low ranking.

Breastfeeding advocates in the U.S. have had a busy year so far, with women across the country have organizing nurse-ins and community breastfeeding days to protest negative publicity, corporate policy or restrictive state laws.

Rachel Papantonakis has been planning her own Breastfeeding Week event since January. Though the Washington, D.C.-based mother of two was never publicly criticized for choosing to breastfeed in public, she decided to take a stand this January after seeing what she described as "too many stories about women being told they can't feed their babies in places where they are legally allowed to do so."

Papantonakis's Facebook page for "The Great Nurse-In," which was held Friday on the West Lawon the Capital building, has more than 2,600 likes.

Stories of women who have faced negative comments while breastfeeding are relatively easy to find.

In February, a Georgia mother said she was forced out of her church for breastfeeding. Nirvana Jennette told WSAV that her past accused her of lewd behavior, and compared her actions to those of a stripper. In response, Jennette staged a "Georgia Statewide Nurse-In" at the Woodbine Courthouse.

Also in February, a group of mothers angered by Facebook's image decency policy held a nurse-in in front of the social media company's headquarters. The protest's leader, Emma Kwasnica is a breastfeeding advocate and mother of three who has posted more 200 photos of herself nursing on her Facebook profile, resulting in at least five suspensions.

More recently, Los Angeles mother Jamie Grumet, 26, sparked a national debate about both breastfeeding and prolonged attachment parenting when she appeared on the cover of Time magazine breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, Aram.
