UN rights body to weigh further probe in Syria (AP)

GENEVA ? The U.N.'s top human right body is being asked to consider setting up a special investigator for Syria and to urge world powers to follow up on evidence of crimes against humanity.

A draft resolution to be taken up at the Human Rights Council's urgent meeting Friday would establish a special rapporteur on human rights in Syria.

The draft, which could change, recommends that the General Assembly and the Security Council ? the U.N.'s most powerful arm ? consider and "take appropriate action" on a report's findings Monday.

The report from the Human Rights Council's expert panel claimed Syrian forces committed "crimes against humanity" to quash the uprising against Syria's President Bashar Assad that began in March.
