Northeast Texas Children's Museum offers summer fun

From NE Texas Children's Museum:

What is a child to do during summer while school is not in session? This year children will be offered many learning opportunities while they have fun at the local Northeast Texas Children?s Museum. Fun Fridays will be repeated again this year. Regular Museum admission will be the price for these events. These programs will begin at 11:00 a.m.

On June 15, Indiana Smith presents ?Arrows over Texas?. He has collected fossils and Indian artifacts since 1978. A portion of his collection will be available for children to see. This program will help young children gain a better understanding of the past in Northeast Texas.

Although not on a Friday, children will be fascinated by Wyman Williams? presentation of mathematics in history. Williams will present his program, Renaissance Math, on Saturday, June 16. Children will gain a greater understanding and appreciation of math in both the ancient and modern world.

On June 29 Wendell and Linda Edwards present ?Games from Colonial Days?. The Edwards come dressed in clothes from the Colonial period. They are a favorite with young children as they explain how games were played in the Colonial times. Examples of games are shown and general information about the period is a part of the information they present. Children enjoy actually playing some of the games. This is a great way for families to begin the 4th of July.

On July 6, William Scobie highlights of Fun Fridays with his unique ?Music for the Family? program for solo violin for ages 3 to 103. ?Music for the Family? includes music ranging from Bach to special arrangements of children?s songs. Scobie?s conversational style of presentation lends an informal atmosphere to his performance.

Additional Fun Fridays include ?Dog Days of Summer? by the Commerce Veterinarian Clinic on July 13. Taking care of pets during the hot summer months will be a part of this presentation.

?Cheernastics? with Jacie Arnold and Haley Benson be on August 3. These two women lead the children through tumbling and cheer activities.

Larry Calvin presents a ?show and tell? with his animal skulls on August 10. Seeing the teeth in a beaver skull ought to make an unforgettable memory for children.

Dr. Marguerite Callahan, the ?turtle lady? will bring her turtles, Big Red and Tuto, to the museum on August 17. She will discuss the physical characteristics of three-toed turtles. Since this is also Davy Crocket?s birthday, anyone wearing a coonskin cap will get one dollar off the regular price of admission.

??????????? Call the Northeast Texas Children?s Museum at (903) 886-6055 or e-mail director@netxcm.com for additional information concerning fees and registration for any of the summer camps. The Museum is located at 2501 Hwy. 50 in Commerce, Texas.
